Colorado Rockies Notes, Quotes 2009-09-04

--RHP Jason Marquis lost his second consecutive start Thursday, something he last did May 7-13. Marquis has made two unsuccessful attempts to win his 15th game and match his career high. He won 15 games with the Cardinals in 2004. Marquis has allowed 10 runs over his last 11 innings in his past two starts. In each game, his final inning has been costly -- a four-run fifth by the Mets on Thursday and a three-run sixth by the Giants on Saturday at San Francisco.

--The loss Thursday prevented the Rockies from sweeping a series with the Mets for the first time since July 2-4, 2007, in Denver.

--C Chris Iannetta and 3B Ian Stewart hit back-to-back homers in the seventh inning Thursday, marking the eighth time this season the Rockies have hit back-to-back homers. For Iannetta, who didn't play the previous four games because he has been slumping and C Yorvit Torrealba has been hot, the home run was his first since Aug. 14 at Florida. Iannetta went 29 at-bats without a home run. Iannetta homered and tripled in four at-bats, giving him his first multi-hit game since Aug. 11. Iannetta came into the game with five hits in his past 33 at-bats.

--LHP Jorge De La Rosa (13-9) has equaled the highest win total of the past 30 years by a pitcher who began his season with at least six consecutive losses, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He matched the total of Mike Boddicker, who went 13-15 for the Orioles and Red Sox in 1988 after starting that season 0-8. De La Rosa is 13-3 in 16 starts dating to June 5 since going 0-6 through May.

BY THE NUMBERS: 24 -- Home runs for SS Troy Tulowitzki, who tied his career-high by hitting his 24th homer Aug. 30 in 440 at-bats this season. He also hit 24 home runs in 609 at-bats as a rookie in 2007.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Every time he takes the mound, our team expects to win. That, to me, is the sign of a true ace. When they're on the mound, you expect to win." -- Closer Huston Street, on RHP Ubaldo Jimenez, who was 6-1 with a 2.47 ERA in his first nine starts after the All-Star break.
